This is a large bowl made from spalted ash and accented by a colorful wide rim. Spalting is created by the natural decaying process and leaves random black streaks throughout the log. The rim is colored by blending different shades of Unicorn Spit wood stains. This allowed me to create purple, hot pink hues to accent and blend the primary red and blue pigments. This log was harvested from an Ash tree in our neighborhood that had to be taken down after being infested by the Emeral Ash Borer, an insect affecting many trees in our area. It is fun to create something that would have otherwise been ground into mulch or ended up in the landfill.
Size Bowl diameter is 12 3/4 inches and is 4 1/2 inches tall.

Care and Maintenance All of our bowls are created to be useful art pieces. We intend for you to pick them up, handle them, put things in them. While we make them with great care, they should be pretty durable and stand up to daily use.
You can wash your bowls by hand with warm water and mild dish soap and dry them immediately. The bowls and finishes are not intended to be submerged in water or run through a dishwasher. The bowl was finished with one coat of shellac with several clear urethane top coats on top of that. The finishes on your bowl have been cured for more than 30-days before shipping to you, so they are safe for your use when you receive them.
